Rose of Sharon. Here, it is in full bloom this August in the gardens of our Catskill Mountain healing center. Rose of Sharon is special for me because it grows over my father's grave in a cemetery back where I grew up. I use the leaves for tea. It is in the hibiscus family.

SAFETY GUIDELINES

Always keep a bottle of V-6 Vegetable Mixing Oil, Massage Oil Base or any pure vegetable oil handy when using essential oils. Vegetable o
ils dilute essential oils if they cause discomfort or skin irritation.

Keep bottles of essential oils tightly closed and store them in a cool location away from light.

If stored properly, essential oils will maintain their potency for many years. Keep essential oils out of reach of children. Treat them as you would any product for therapeutic use.

Do not use essential oils rich in menthol (such as peppermint) on the throat or neck area of children under 30 months of age.

Direct sunlight and essential oil
:
Lemon, bergamot, orange, grapefruit, tangerine, White Angelica and other citrus oils may cause a rash or darker pigmentation if applied to skin exposed to direct sunlight or UV rays with 3 to 4 days of use.

Keep essential oils away from eye area and do not put into ears.

Do not handle contact lenses or rub eyes with essential oils on fingers. Oils with high phenol content – oregano, helichrysum, cinnamon, thyme, clove, lemongrass, bergamot, Thieves and ImmuPower – may damage contacts and irritate eyes.

Pregnant women should consult their healthcare professional before using essential oils containing constituents with hormone-like activity such as clary sage, sage, Idaho tansy, juniper and fennel.

Epileptics and those with high blood pressure should consult their healthcare professional before using essential oils. Avoid using hyssop, fennel and Idaho tansy oils.

People with allergies should test a small amount of oil on a small area of sensitive skin, such as the inside of the arm, before applying the oil on other areas.

The bottom of the feet is one of the safest, most effective places to use essential oils.

Before taking GRAS (Generally Regarded as Safe) essential oils internally, always dilute with an oil-soluble liquid like honey, olive oil or soy milk.

Do not add undiluted essential oils directly to bath water. Use Bath Gel Base as a dispersing agent for oils in the bath.

Some Ways to Protect Your Health

I attended a two week trip to rural India at a multi-thousands-of-year-old spiritual gathering called the Kumbha Mela (great spiritual gathering).

Over 35,000,000 people gathered and lived in a specially constructed tent city of 18 square miles for the one-month spiritual festival.

The daily temperature averaged 100-110 degrees Fahrenheit 40 degrees Celsius.

There was a lot of dust in the air, and sanitation was good by rural Indian standards, but certainly not what our bodies are used to in the more sanitized western world.

I walked up to 10 miles daily within the Mela grounds, in the heat and dust, to attend different activities going on, so my muscles got a lot more workout than at home. I lost 10 pounds.

Transportation available within the mela grounds were rickshaws, human-pulled carts, pony-pulled carriages - or an occasional elephant - none of which had shock absorbers!

You get the picture: bumpity bumpity bumpity!

Many cities do not yet have emissions control, so there is a lot of black diesel fumes pumped into the air by trucks, and buses, and other vehicles.

Such a trip would be unthinkable for me without the protection of the Young Living products to safeguard my health.

Here is list of what Young Living products I took with me, and how I used them. This list is appropriate for any international travel, third world situations, camping, and rural living anywhere - especially where there is air-born feces-contaminated dust.

Each person's biochemistry is unique, so what works for one person will be modified for another. This list is just to get you thinking on what would be good for yourself.

PRE-TRIP PREPARATION

I fasted for 5 days before leaving with the lemonade cleanse to help my body discharge a lot of the toxins it had picked up from the winter months in the Catskill mountains of New York - to help my body be able to handle the change in climate, food, living conditions, etc.

For 2 weeks before departure, I applied several drops of Juva Cleanse oil over my liver, and put 1 drop daily in some drinking water.

When doing this, you can also snort water up inside your nose til you feel it trickle down the back of your throat. Then snort it out several times through your nose til you feel clean and unclogged inside.

You can use a neti pot to rinse nasal passages, too.

CLEARING DIESEL FUMES FROM AIR POLLUTION

Lemon oil

Breathed several times daily. Rub behind ears and at base of skull twice daily. 1 drop added to water bottle daily.

STAMINA

I made a special blend and put it in a zip-lock plastic bag: Power Meal mixed with Coral Calcium. I took a half scoop of this each morning just mixed with some plain water. Not too tasty, but it sure gave me excellent stamina for the day.

NinXia Red

I have found by adding CLOVE oil to NR, it stays without refrigeration even while travelling in hot climates.

In a 1 liter glass bottle, I put 1/2 NR, some unsugared grape juice, several droppers of mineral essence, about 20 drops Clove oil, 10 drops Thieves oil, 10 drops Highest Potential, and 5 drops White Angelica.

I carried 2 bottles of this blend, one for each week.

I poured 1/7th of the bottle into a liter water bottle each day, and then filled the daily bottle with purified drinking water. I sipped this throughout the day, and have found it keeps me from feeling faint either from the heat, or from my own variations in energy. A sip of this blend immediately rejuvenates my energy and my stamina.

RETURNING HOME

After returning home and assessing my incredible spiritual journey, and allowing my body to readjust from the long, arduous and eventful trip, I ate very lightly, drank lots of lemonade cleanse, rested, enjoyed hot soak baths with essential oils, and enjoyed tremendously the refreshing rejuvenating properties of the Young Living skin care products and shampoos.

Pure NinXia Red is also so cooling and refreshing and energizing in a very good way for me.

SHARING OILS ON THE JOURNEY

As always, when I travel (or at home for that matter) so many opportunities arise to share the oils with others.

The camp I stayed in had two beautiful white bulls. One of that had some kind of an eye problem that caused the eye to be weeping constantly. I showed the handler how to apply lavender oil all around the eye - about 2 inches from the eye itself. Within 2 days, most of the weeping (which had been copious) was gone.

One day, I visited one of the holy men and explained I had some natural "remedies" with me. I spent the next several hours anointing all kinds of people with everything from sore legs, joint aches, sore necks, and sad feelings. It is always a joy to see how rapidly our oils can bring relief to many problems for people and animals.

The lovely family who made me fresh pineapple and orange juice daily lived across from our camp. One evening when I went for my juice, the mother was stretched out on the floor with a bad headache.

I vita flexed Peppermint, Relieve It, Panaway and Joy into her feet, gave her a few drops of each to put on her temples and back of neck and inhale. Within 5 minutes, she was up and smiling, and saying her headache was all gone.

She was one of the event health directors and was very impressed with our remedies! She continued to talk about this event for the duration of my stay.

A chief of police had a very sore finger. He said he had it for ten years and nothing helped. I gave him a few drops each of Thieves, Exodus and Immupower to apply to the finger. After this one application, there was no trace of the ailment on his finger at all when I saw him 2 weeks later.

An international banker had a very sore foot. After a single application of Thieves, Exodus and Immupower, he reported the problem was gone 2 weeks later.

I was asked to demonstrate the oils for the Chief of Surgery during Grand Rounds at the Royal Pashupathinath Hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal. One 78 year old Brahmin priest was in a lot of discomfort. I demonstrated a modified raindrop technique to his spine and feet, had his son hold lavender oil under his nose. The next day, he was feeling so much better he was sent home!

A 34 year old man who had been in a lot of discomfort after an accident. I again demonstrated the raindrop technique with some emotional relief oils from the Feelings Kit. After the 45 minute application, he was able to relax. With tear-streaked eyes, he had his wife indicate he was comfortable for the first time in 17 years.

Two of the holy men were setting up hospitals to provide for rural local villagers in their home locals. I spent several hours with the doctors (trained in western allopathic medicine) explaining some of the principles of natural health and healing and explaining some of the biochemistry of essential oil practice.

I had ongoing email contact with these people to support them in discovering how they can incorporate many of Young Living’s health-promoting principles in their public health education outreach.

It is interesting that many many many of natural health findings are aligned with the ancient tradition of India called Ayurveda - a millennia old health care system.

There are essential oil protocols found in Chinese traditions, acupuncture, Ayurveda, in the healing pyramids of Egypt, 238 references in the Bible, and in indigenous cultures around the world.
