This beautiful pool at 15,000 feet on Mt. Kailas, is considered the pool of the Godess Parvati. Called Guarikund, its water is considered priceless and rejuvenating. Our sherpa guide ran down 100's of steep feet to back up in just a few minutes to bring us a pitcher of this divine water.  Posted by Hello

Rose of Sharon. Here, it is in full bloom this August in the gardens of our Catskill Mountain healing center. Rose of Sharon is special for me because it grows over my father's grave in a cemetery back where I grew up.  I use the leaves for tea.  It is in the hibiscus family.

In the great epic literary work of India, Hanuman, the great hero who had super-human strength and stamina (sort of like Superman, only in this case, Super Monkey) was sent to Mt Kailas to collect the healing herbs there to bring life back to the fallen army of Lord Rama. When Hanuman reached Mt Kailas, he didn't know which were the herbs he was to bring. So, to resolve his question, he brought the WHOLE MOUNTAIN of HEALING HERBS back to the battlefield.

When the fallen soldiers SMELLED all the herbs, they returned to life and vitality and came back to upright, full of vigor and enthusiasm.

Today, we are very lucky that we don't have to go to the mountains, or get a giant monkey to bring the mountain to us. The essence of the healing plants is most potently conserved is the format of therapeutic grade essential oils.

Mt Kailas looms 18,000 feet above the Tibetan Plateau. The walking trail around it is at 15,000 feet and goes over boulders, across glaciers with meter-wide crevices. "Taxi" service is by nomads with their yaks, if you can catch one! Mainly we walked, step by step, inch by inch.

Actually, I crawled from 15,000 feet to 18,000 feet after I slide off the back of the saddle-less yak and was left unceremoniously dumped and abandoned by that care-less animal.

Huffing to the top of the pass was cause for celebration.  People were lighting candles, hanging prayer flags, chanting, and passing out treats to each other.

Some die on the ascent, and some have to be carried back to base camp by the sherpas.

On this ascent, people strew old clothes and cuttings of their hair - to symbolize their death of whatever is old in their life - as they move into the higher vibration.  It did look like a garbage patch on the side of the mountains with all the strewings of the pilgrims, adventurers, and guides.

Sharing the Oils in Kathmandu and Tibet

The ancient trade route, the Silk Road winds down through the high Himalayan passes, snaking in and round rushing mountain torrents of white water, relentlessly finding its way to the sea. For thousands of years, intrepid traders have risked the elements, bandits, the altitude and winds to carry grains, rice, gold, precious fabrics of silks and brocades and hand-crafted tapestries of exquisite beauty and healing essential oils more valuable than gold itself to the four corners of the world marketplace. It is on this ancient trade route that our caravan of pilgrims risked all the age-old terrors, plus the modern ones of political armies and the unknown health challenges to visit the most ancient and sacred sight of Mount Kailas in western Tibet - 18,000 feet above the remote and vast Tibetan plateau.

Such a journey would be unthinkable without the protection of the Young Living Essential Oils. My compromised western immune system had trouble navigating cold season in New York state much less the unthinkable and totally unfamiliar bugs sure to greet me in this ancient land devoid of any modern sanitary measures.

Pre-trip preparation included several months of daily applications of Thieves and Immupower on my feet and lymphatic region of the upper chest and underarms arms. A previous year of using the oils and supplements to build up my physical and emotional bodies had taken away residual aches and pains and digestive symptoms and lingering subtle emotional fears so that I could even contemplate an undertaking of this magnitude. I used Aroma Life to build up  and prepare for altitudes of 15,000 to 18,000 feet in below freezing temperatures. My sea level raised and conditioned body of 53 years had a lot of adapting to do.

Young Living Essential Oils have a way of jumping out of my suitcases, pockets and handbags to greet people . On the plane to Delhi, India I showed an Indian businessman and researcher the power of Hope and Joy oil blends to alleviate sad feelings.

Arriving in Kathmandu late at night, I immediately filtered a liter of water and added Thieves oil (1 drop) to it to protect and prepare my drinking water. This water with a drop of Thieves blend (and on some days Lemon or Digize, Immupower blends) became my constant companion for the next 9 weeks. When reliable bottled water was available I used that with the oil drops. Otherwise I filtered and oiled the water.

The slightest touch of digestion difficulties was stopped with 3 drops of Thieves in 1/2 cup of water.

I will now relate some fascinating accounts of the healing protection of the Essential Oils both in my own body and on the many citizens of this part of the world with whom the oils were shared .

* Our tour guide developed very red bloodshot eyes. I applied 1 drop of Cypress to each eye before bed. The next morning, both eyes were totally normal.

* I gave a bottle of Envision blend to a man. Two weeks later he thanked me profusely. By just smelling it daily before bed he had lost  his craving for alcohol, which had become problematical in his life.

* A holy sadhu (wandering ascetic) had walked 6 months barefoot and in a light cotton cloth to Mt. Kailas at 18,000 feet altitude. His feet had several bloody and open sores and he was hobbling. I applied Lavender oil and the burning soreness was alleviated.

* When the nomads saw I had pockets full of healing bottles they came up to me and pointed to different body parts while grimacing. I gave 1 man ear application for several days in a row as he helped us set up camp. I used Cypress and Lavender oil, 1 drop on each ear. He looked relieved, but I did not see him enough to note if the applications were sufficient.

*Altitude sickness grabbed me very powerfully at 15,000 feet (13 of our 15 days). I could not walk more than 5 steps without being winded, exhausted and dizzy. It was very hard to hold down food. After a few bites, I would begin to feel nauseous and if I ate a few more bitefuls of food I would begin vomiting. Power Meal (a cellular nutrition protein formulation) kept my weight loss to a mere 20 pounds. I shared the Power Meal with other people who were feeling weak and they gratefully reported their heads clearing, and having enough energy to move.

* We camped beside dirty rivers with animal and human dung floating in the water and all around. The cooks would sometimes just heat the water to near boiling. I would be too exhausted to insist on a longer boiling period to kill pathogens, so I took my warm water and added Thieves or Immupower in quantity (10 drops or so - I just opened the bottle and shook some in). I took Comfortone before bed and in the morning. ICP came to the rescue if the "runs" got the upper hand. By juggling the products and bringing out more of them and a greater quantity, everything was kept in check. I also rubbed a lot of Thieves and Immupower on my chest and feet.

*Relieve It oil blend was great for sore travellers feet. On several occasions, I rubbed Relieve It all over my feet before bed. In the morning, my feet were like new - with no soreness whatsoever.

These are my personal stories and experiences. You may or may not have similar results. None of these stories have been evaluated or approved by the FDA. Everyone's biochemistry is different. What works for one person, may or may not work for another!

WHAT ARE THERAPEUTIC GRADE ESSENTIAL OILS? Why are YL Oils Unique?

Essential Oils are the life blood of the plant world. They have a similar biochemistry to human blood - oxygen, nitrogen, carbon, etc. They perform very similar functions: remove waste, transport food, oxygenate cells. They also raise frequency. Essential oils have been shown to stimulate the immune system and help the body balance itself for optimal health. Essential oils kills virus, bacteria, molds, fungus and parasites.

The Essential Oil Desk Reference defines essential oils:

"Essential oils are aromatic volatile liquids distilled from shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, and seeds. Vegetable oils can become oxidized and rancid over time and are not antibacterial. Essential oils on the other hand cannot go rancid and are powerful antimicrobials. They are chemically very complex, consisting of hundreds of different chemical compounds. Moreover, they are highly concentrated and far more potent than dried herbs. The distillation process is what makes essential oils so concentrated. It often requires an entire plant or more to produce a single drop of distilled essential oil.

"
Essential oils are also different from vegetable oils, such as corn oil, peanut oil, and olive oil. They are not greasy and do not clog the pores like many vegetable oils can."

In the US, essential oils are governed by the perfume act. That means a label can say 100% essential oil, but by law only has to have a small amount of plant material in it. The rest of the bottle can be filled with all kinds of chemical fillers. A common one is propylene glycol - commonly known as antifreeze. Perfume? Well, maybe. But medicinal? Definitely not in my book.

It takes great knowledge and skill in many specialties to cultivate and produce true medical grade essential oils. Medical grade essential oils, for therapeutic application, are so designed by ISO (International Standards Organization) and AFNOR, a French standards and certifying agency.

Here are some of the processes and considerations at the Young Living herb farms and essential oil distillery in Utah. Young Living is the largest, internationally certified medical grade pure oils grower, distiller and distributor in the world.

A GC is a gas chromatograph. It measures what an oil has in it, and in what quantities. Since there re over 70,000 different kinds of molecules n plant oils, some are still unknown to us. However, with a GC, dilution and other forms of adulteration can usually be identified. It's not foolproof, but it is the best tool that we have available to us today, especially when used in conjunction with a mass spectrometer, which is another type of equipment used to test oils.

All Young Living oils are quarantined until they have been thoroughly tested. If there are any discrepancies, they are sent out to other labs to be tested again. Because of Gary Young's (the founder) commitment to purity, our oils actually have a very complex testing process that they go through. To my knowledge, there is no other company testing their oils as stringently.

The problem is that even if an oil is pure, it may not contain the ingredients that make up an excellent oil. For example, the standard process, in the industry, for distilling an oil may include high temperature and high pressure during distillation, to maximize yield.

The plant may have laid in the field for a long time before it is processed.

It may be distilled in an aluminum distiller, or chlorinated water might be used.

The plants might be laden with petro-chemicals like pesticides or fertilizer. If so, during distillation, the chemicals may adversely affect the oil.

A hybrid of the plant may be grown, which may not contain the desired molecules.

The plant can be harvested at the wrong time in its growth process.

Any of these factors can be present, and yet, a manufacturer can still call their oil, "pure". Do you see? This is why distillation is as much of an art as it is a science. Do you think the typical company cares about all of these details? I don't think so. They're looking for "pure" oils that they can buy cheap. Gary Young cares, he cares a great deal.

Young Living goes to great lengths to grow the plants that will provide us with what we want in an oil.

Gary Young is very specific about the soil that the plants are grown in. I remember when he bought the Whispering Springs Farm in Mona, UT (now called the Young Living Farm), and he was so excited to show it to us. The only things out there were an old, broken down house, several natural springs, and huge piles of organic manure..... He was grinning from ear to ear. He and Mary spread that manure themselves, knowing that it would build the soil, organically.

When the plants are ready for harvest, I have heard Gary make the crew wait until just the right time for harvesting - when the plants were in the optimum part of their growth process.

I remember, many years ago, when he wasn't sure - was it better to distill peppermint during the bloom, or just before? And how long should they wait, after harvesting, and before distilling? The industry said to wait, and yet, his heart told him that if he did, valuable molecules would be lost.

He tested his theory, and re-tested, until he got the results he wanted. He takes the plants directly out of the field, to the distiller, as soon as possible. In my opinion, he has re-written the rules on distillation in these past several years. I've been present as he has experimented with the process, and his dedication to improvement never ceases to amaze me.

And how about using city water to distill with? No, says Gary, it has to be pure water, without chlorine and other harmful chemicals. He even waters the fields at the farm with spring water.

And the distillers are stainless steel. And he's constantly re-designing them to make them more efficient at capturing the molecules that can make all the difference to us.

He's revolutionized distillation by using low temperatures and low pressure. His goal is to have the best oils in the world. It's his challenge to himself. He lays awake at night thinking of new ways of improving the process.

I remember when we went to France, several years ago, he took with him lavender oil from the YL farm. He had so carefully grown the plants in organic soil, watered them with spring water, and when it was time to distill, he chose the time carefully, and then distilled with especially low temperature and low pressure. In France, they tested the oil, and found many molecules that had never been seen in lavender before. He was ecstatic.
